"Thrilling! Stirring! Spectacular!"
At the start of the war for independence against Britain, settlers Gilbert Martin (Fonda) and Lana Martin (Colbert) face attacks from belligerent Indians sent by the British. After their house is razed to the ground, Gilbert joins a regiment to defend the fortress, where the population has fled from the valley, against the attacks of the Native Americans.
