Interesting movie.

After the credits I started musing for a while - like 'what have I been looking at'. And I don't know yet if I can share the enthusiasm of many viewers - I didn't think the dialogues were very good, for example, and there was quite a lot of absolutely uninteresting squabbling - of which the interpretation of Onderhond in my opinion it is the sharpest. And that immediately gives a nice explanation of the title. Perhaps also enough to see as a motif in the film, without including links to world literature or theater.

Cinematically rather traditional and safe, only in the last few minutes did I notice something more intrusive - during Aydin's closing monologue, which I understand as the text of a letter. On the other hand, or seriously beautiful in the harsh landscapes, the ruthless way in which the horse is treated, and the richly decorated indoor locations - absurdly beautiful here and there, and highlighted and portrayed in perfection.

In addition, a very well dosed and timed use of Schubert's Sonata D959, fitting in the somewhat contemplative and moody atmosphere that hangs over the film. Perfectly beautiful and controlled soundtrack - that helped me a lot to patiently sit out the killer playing time. That's where my opinion is slowly starting to go - I think it's mainly an atmospheric piece, in which you can see a motif in the direction of hibernation, the rudderless way in which people go through their lives and the inability to give meaning to it .

Undoubtedly it is long, but remains a fascinating work, with not to be sneezed at by acting.

Value is certainly in the many dialogues, the length of which requires full attention, but which address diverse subjects including the social subordination of women, family pride... but also ordinary, recognizable disputes and points of view.

How theatrical.

Despite the rather long length, it is quite interesting. Not so much narrative, because I had more trouble with that, but mainly enjoyed the excellent acting and fine cinematography. Also visually a gem with the beautiful backdrop of the remote landscape.

There's not much going on in Winter sleep. I was immediately captivated by the beginning and the ensuing quarrel because of arrears of rent. The confrontation ended in an impasse and the poor cleric bent submissively in 77 bends to please the owner.

The other topics that were covered appealed less to me. Especially the part about the book. The cool, distant relationship between Aydin and Nihal was better, especially when he (well-intentioned) gets involved with her "charity vzw". Especially the strong dialogues came to the fore here, as did the acting. The dialogues between Aydin and his sister were a bit too pompous for me.

A film that for me mainly alternated good with less good things. Slightly disappointed with this one too, because I expected a little more from it. Despite its length, it remains a decent film.
