I think this movie is too long for what happened. Love court movies and especially the surprise in court, only that's where things go wrong, there's no surprise it's mostly family drama. He started well and was already looking forward to making it (robert downing jr) in that farming village as a top lawyer, but unfortunately. Was a shame had I feel more resident. The film is also well made and the actors are also good so that was not the issue.

Moderate affair.

The Judge is a gray and too long drama. On the one hand the court part, which doesn't really mean much except the question of guilt, and on the other hand the family nonsense. That is quite hefty, not only between father and son, but also between son and his former lover, and son and his brothers, and son and his daughter.

It's a lot of hay on the fork, but above all the same kind of hay. Something could have been left out, it would have been useful for the playing time. In any case, it doesn't get interesting anywhere and it is only through a fresh acting Robert Downey that it remains a bit watchable - I usually also like to see Vera Farmiga in action, but only has a small role. Veteran Robert Duvall as grumbler has not been able to convince me.

In that case, relatively little remains of a nevertheless well-filled film - both in terms of 'story' and in terms of cast. Visually, the film is boring.

2.5

Great film which is considerably weakened by a completely unnecessary and disturbing side plot with his old girl and her daughter. Scenes between Downey and Duvall are strong, especially during the storm. The soundtrack (Bon Iver) was a bit too much of a good one. Would have been more interested if they had held back.
