Far from the Madding Crowd plot
Victorian era, 1870. Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan) is a beautiful, proud woman with an independent spirit. She is courted by three very different men: Gabriel Oak (Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, Frank Troy (Sturridge), a reckless sergeant, and William Boldwood (Sheen), a wealthy and elderly bachelor.

Very pleasant adaptation of Thomas Hardy's book of the same name, about an independent woman (Carey Mulligan) who, after inheriting an estate, is confronted with a series of marriage proposals from quite different men. Beautifully portrayed and beautifully played, although it is a pity that the characters are developed a bit superficially and that certain dramatic events do not have more impact. Apart from that a first-class film, something different for director Thomas Vinterberg, who usually treats us to more melancholy work.

Thorough costume drama by Vinterberg who for once takes a different path. On the side of Matthias Schoenaerts, who also appears in other films by Vinterberg. Filmed on the basis of a book, but the film also remains entertaining although it quietly ripples on.
At the center is an independent landowner who is courted at the end of the nineteenth century by 3 men, each of different origins. No intrigue or jealousy, this film steers clear of that. It all remains quite courteous, as if the bet is a game that you lose.
The beautiful setting and excellent acting are flanked by the beautiful rolling landscape. All very well done, but not for all viewers of course, because despite the smooth game some expect more action or tension.
