The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964)

Atmospheric spookiness.

The use of color and atmosphere in this old horror film are well done. The acting performances fluctuate a bit but are not distracting anywhere. What is a bit bothersome, however, is that after a good start, the film takes a weak nosedive towards the end. The scenes with the mummy are also quite disappointing.

Once again, a decent mummy movie from the Hammer studio.
The acting is of varying quality, but there are no disturbing outliers.
Only the character of the old professor comes across as somewhat dusty and stately, but I think that was partly the intention.
The mummy looks good, but unfortunately sees little action. Aside from the murder in the alley, he doesn't really manage to create any memorable scenes.
As with almost every Hammer production, considerable attention has once again been paid to the costumes and sets. Consequently, the costumes look good and authentic, and the sets are beautiful as well, including the sarcophagus containing the mummy.
In terms of the storyline, the film fails to surprise: there is another old curse, etc. Except for the twist at the end, but I have to honestly admit that I found that a bit ridiculous. Furthermore, it came across as anything but believable.
No massive manhunt, like in the Universal Mummy films, but that doesn't really fit the British style either.
As a child, mummies always captured my imagination, but I must say that I never really find movie mummies terrifying. Still, there is plenty to enjoy in this Hammer production (even without the iconic Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee).

An old-fashioned horror film that relies more on atmosphere and acting. The mummy itself isn't all that impressive. However, there is plenty to enjoy thanks to the cast, the authentic costumes, and the beautiful sets. The beautiful use of color in this film is also noteworthy. The story is simple and, naturally, revolves around a curse. Nevertheless, praise for the careful build-up and attention to the characters. Towards the end, the story devolves into some implausibilities when the mummy chases Annette (Jeanne Roland) through the sewers. On the other hand, that final scene does have a strong selling point with Jeanne Roland's boobs looking like they could pop out of her dress at any moment. 6/10
