Raw, realistic looking western.
Not much to complain about, except for the ending which I find too dramatic and not very realistic. The singing, the boy throws his revolver on the ground... and leaves. Very unfortunate, it detracts greatly from all the images that precede it.
4*

Entertaining western, just seen it for the 2nd time, at times the film seems a bit like Cowboys, The (1972) but I found that one a bit stronger, otherwise a fine film but an abrupt ending makes me decide for 3.5 instead of 4*

Fine, but not the masterpiece that some see in it for me. In my opinion, the film is too unbalanced and not consistent enough for that.

On the one hand, they want to give a realistic picture of cowboy life, on the other hand, the film lacks reality at essential moments. The way Culpepper regularly acts and makes decisions are examples of this. The film also derails in terms of realism at the end

However, this did not bother me so much that I could not enjoy the story. Several well-known and striking characters from the better B-group give the film that little bit extra. Lots of atmosphere and a good soundtrack round off the whole.
