Excellent film in which a girl witnesses a murder in the building where she lives. The relationship that develops between the girl and the murderer is central here. Well constructed scenes and location work contribute to the realism of the film. The young Hayley Mills (whose debut this was) portrays her role credibly. A narrow 4.0 stars.

Nice, fairly light-hearted crime thriller. Father and daughter Mills are of course attuned to each other and you can tell by the smooth acting. There is little to complain about, only the script forces the bad guy to appear very sympathetic and I didn't think that suited a murderer. I would have preferred to see a bad guy with two faces, who posed more threat so that the tension could be increased and felt more. That would also have made the murder(er) more credible, now he is a gentle boy whose actions cannot really be reconciled (one moment he kills a woman in cold blood, the next moment he is caring for the witness of that murder). Beautiful film, but very light within the genre. Towards 3.5*.

was close to a 4, but the beginning was a bit less, only when the child gets to know the perpetrator and a bond is created between the 2, it becomes more and more fascinating, that aspect is the strong point of the film and is more than well developed Although it could have been better with a little more screentime, the exciting and emotional ending lifts this film to a higher average.
