Curtain at Eight plot
Numerous women fall in love with matinee idol Wylie Thornton, including Anice Cresmer, who joins the cast of his current play with her sister Lola. Lola begs her sister to give up Wylie, but she refuses. Wylie plans to leave for New York with local heiress Doris Manning as his new leading lady. Wylie and his wife, who hides her marriage and pretends to be his secretary Alma Jenkins, plan to split the money Wylie can earn from working with Doris. But after Anice learns of Wylie's infidelity, she kills herself, prompting Lola to go to Wylie's farewell party at the theater to kill him.
