After having seen the House trilogy, I also watched the third part, although this of course has nothing to do with House. Reminded me a lot of Shocker, both in terms of plot and execution. And at times it was even reminiscent of Craven's other film, A Nightmare on Elm Street. Nevertheless, the makers don't make much of it. The Horror Show is nothing more than a standard horror work, of which there are already too many.

The story is a cliché, the dubbing is terrible and there is no decent acting. Brion James in particular cuts a huge figure with his potato sack of a psychopath. Staring idiotically into space with your upper lip up doesn't make you scary, it just makes you look retarded. For fans of a typically simple 80s horror with a few amusing moments, this is quite entertaining. For people who like a fresh and innovative script, on the other hand, you have come to the wrong place. Then you really need to get the two houses sooner.

2 little stars.

The Horror Show was released here in the Netherlands under the title House III, but can easily be watched as a standalone film.

Lance Henriksen gives a nice performance as a police officer who is plagued by the ghost of a psychopath (Brion James).

This film was produced by Sean Cunningham and features music by Harry Manfredini. The latter provided a great soundtrack that is somewhat reminiscent of the better Richard Band work.

The family is very American with the adult teenage daughter and the son who seems to do nothing other than listen to hard rock and heavy metal.

That this film has such a low IMDB average. I had a great time with this. The special effects in the dream/halucination scenes look pretty cool and Brion James manages to come across as quite creepy. In addition, the film has a nice pace, which makes the hour and a half seem to fly by.

Still a quite enjoyable 80s film for fans.
