"It started in May. In a small town. And every month after that whenever the moon was full... it came back."

In a quiet village, the peace has disappeared since dead bodies are found after every full moon. The handicapped Marty thinks this is the work of a werewolf, but of course nobody believes him. The villagers launch a massive manhunt for the wild beast, while Marty hunts for the werewolf herself, with a silver bullet.

In the early 1980s, few were as popular as the werewolf movie. Take 1981 alone with American Werewolf in London, The Howling and Wolfen. In that regard, Silver Bullet can feel like post-meal mustard. It's Stephen King's attempt to do something with the werewolves after dealing with vampires in Salem's Lot. His story and the accompanying film Silver Bullet are not groundbreaking for a moment, but a very entertaining horror film did emerge.

The film is quite traditional in its narration; small town is terrorized by a murderer who tears his victims to pieces. Corey Haim plays a very nice lead, along with sister Megan Follows (who is also the narrator of the story for some unclear reasons) and uncle Gary Busey. That last one is memorable because it's Gary Busey; the guy is doing his thing, completely Gary-Busey style. The town also has funny characters, including of course the necessary rednecks, a sheriff and a priest. The latter, played by Everett McGill, is also memorable for several reasons; not least because it's Everett McGill. Very nice role. But the most hilarious part is that old bullet-maker, who makes a silver bullet. 'How about a wuhrwolf?'

3.5 stars.

Precious 80s product that tends to be wrong, is cult, but also very entertaining. Seen it a few times a long time ago and even longer ago I read the book that only counts 125 pages, so it can be done in an afternoon. So it wasn't surprising anymore, but it was a lot of fun as far as I'm concerned.

In that sense it is again a typical King story about an area or a place where everyone has their role and everything has its own course, but as usual not for long. The reactions and interaction with each other, just like the colorful characters, is again des Kings. Great work is done with the young Marty and his sister and the misery that slowly unfolds. Funny is the crazy Uncle Red, typical role of Busey here before his accident and clearly noticeable that he has quiet moments here in contrast to later. Who wouldn't want an uncle like that, by the way, hilarious figure.

The work is fine with a number of oppressive moments and even a bit of Gore. McGill, by the way, is excellent in his role. The wheelchair is very borderline, the duel with the car is nonsense, the humor is very nice and the soundtrack varies from pretty good to cringe-inducing. What I find very well presented is that typical King image of a municipality in turmoil.

No, it is not a top film, there are better King adaptations. Seen in the time frame, with more than pretty special effects around the werewolf itself, this is a more than pretty enjoyable movie.
