Derelict plot

"A Man-Wrecked Woman! A Ship-Wrecked Man! On the High Seas of Adventurous Love! A Paramount Drama"

Rivals Bill Rafferty and Jed Graves are first mates on Batson's freighter line. Bill and Jed openly clash when they both fall in love with Helen Lorber, an entertainer at a Havana café. When Bill Helen offers to sail his ship to Rio, she agrees and then quits her job. But unexpectedly, Bill is appointed captain of another freighter and he maliciously chooses Jed as his mate. Bill now thinks the risk is too great to take a woman on board and withdraws his offer. An angry Helen approaches Jed, who smuggles her into a ship's cabin.
