Rather Simple Jackie Chan...

Nice and stupid and sometimes quite funny, but unfortunately Jackie has a lot of these kinds of films. The foxy lady playing along was a nice addition and there were enough reasonable action scenes in it.

Also very playful compared to some of Chan's other Flicks.

Not bad for once.

Narrow * 2.5

Well it was quite fun but sometimes long winded and a bit busy and boring.

Other than that it went well.

Acting was mediocre.

All stereotypes thrown together, Jackie Chan added, but without his typical fighting style. Due to his extra powers, much of his well-known humor and acrobatics is lost. Forlani is still fun to watch, but Lee Evans' slapstick does get boring in the long run. Presumably this is another one of the films that Chan takes purely for the money to finance his own projects.

Ugh, what a bad movie. Only Chan (Eddie) saves the honor a bit with his acting & (kung-fu) tricks ( e.g. hitting the bikes) & the head of Forlani (Nicole) as handsome side-kick also does some good.
The bad guys were really, really bad, especially Sands (Snakehead) & Evans (Watson) weren't funny at all.
The story is about nothing & the SFX are crying.

Jackie Chan was always known for his spectacular action films, where the action was combined with a dose of humor.

This film is nowhere near as good as most of Chan's previous films. The story makes no sense, but that wouldn't be a problem if the action and humor were fully present. However, that is not the case. A lot of stunts clearly use (poor) special effects, where the originality of the fighting, which is precisely one of the strengths of Chan's films, is completely missing. In addition, Lee Evans is not fun at all and there is actually little to laugh in this film.

By the way, Julian Sands is convincing as a villain and pretty much the only plus about this film. The film is unfortunately not very good.

Too bland.

On the one hand it is a pity that Chan has never made anything decent outside of Hong Kong/China, on the other hand we now know why he takes on these kinds of roles and what is done with the money afterwards, so it can be difficult to be really disappointed.

But of course these kinds of movies aren't great, not even with HK legend Gordon Chan behind the wheel. Now he's not immediately my favorite HK director (this film is a bit too up his alley even), but I expected a bit more from it.

The effects are deadly bad. In any case, Chan is of course not an actor who has to rely on effects. The acting isn't too good either. Evans is indeed annoying, but it is mainly Sands who is really unbearable. Dramatic bad guy. Rhys-Davies has a nice supporting role and Anthony Wong was also a pleasant surprise, although his dub does spoil a lot of his presence.

Also too many gunfights, another thing Chan isn't necessarily very good at. Fortunately, the chase is worth the effort, also some silly jokes left and right and the lack of seriousness ensure that it all still looks away smoothly.

Still glad that Chan has said goodbye to this part of his career. At least you still have the bloopers.
