Reasonable film in which a princess is kidnapped and where the sky of her planet is demanded as a ransom. Obviously a parody of mainly Star Wars where the meager story doesn't really matter. The joke density is high here (sometimes funny, sometimes bland, often both). It was certainly nice made up here and there, but it could have been a little shorter. A narrow 3.0 stars.

Even for a Mel Brooks movie, this one is very bland. Other similar parodies such as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and History of the World: Part I I do like a lot.
Bill Pullman and John Candy are painfully unfunny, and the female lead is anything but good. Only Rick Moranis I found very funny at times, he saves the film to a large extent.
Dark Helmet: "What the hell am i looking at? When does this happen in the movie?"
Colonel Sandurz: "Now, you're looking at now sir. Everything that happens now is happening now."
Dark Helmet: "What happened to then?"
Colonel Sandurz: "We passed it."
Dark Helmet: "When?"
Colonel Sandurz: "Just now. We're at now... now."
Dark Helmet: "Go back to then!"
Colonel Sandurz: "When?"
Dark Helmet: "Now."
Colonel Sandurz: "Now?"
DarkHelmet: "Now!"
Colonel Sandurz: "I can't!"
Dark Helmet: "Why?"
Colonel Sandurz: "We missed it."
Dark Helmet: "When?"
Colonel Sandurz: "Just now."
Dark Helmet: "...when will then be now?"
Colonel Sandurz: "Soon!"
Dark Helmet: "How soon?"
Dark Helmet: "What did you do?"
Colonel Sandurz: "I turned of the wall."
Dark Helmet: "No you didn't, you turned of the whole movie!"
Colonel Sandurz: "I must have pressed the wrong button."
Dark Helmet: "Well put it back on, put the movie back on!"
Dark Helmet: "If there's one thing i despise, it's a fair fight!"

“You idiots! These are not them! You've captured their stunt doubles!”
Nice satire. Spaceballs is a parody of Star Wars, and the nods to Star Trek, Alien and many other films are also nicely done. The actors go all out for it too, and actress Daphne Zuniga has said somewhere that she struggled not to burst out laughing all the time. I get that, although there are remarkably few really funny moments in it. But it is original, and the makers and actors clearly worked on the film with a lot of fun and love for the original material.
