Pretty standard crime film actually. We have seen a team within the police force that uses its own unorthodox methods many times before. Just like the Internal Affairs guy sitting on it. Nice acting, language and rough imaging makes it all look good in itself.
In the pursuit of the bank robbers things really go wrong; Hundreds of shots fired, but none hit. Especially with automatic rifles quite clever. Predictions/cliches clearly creep in too (when Jack had to keep Nancy's ring, it was clear that she was going to die, Jack saves George in the closing scene). And if a glitzy car chase still wants to save the day, then the ending pulls it back (completely illogical that Jack can go back to work after the last action).
So, all in all, not really an enjoyable snack.

Mediocre crime film about a thug that does dirty work for the police. I did not find the main character appealing and the story is a dime a dozen. Scams from Heat and Point Break, among others. A lot of aerial shots of London have yet to visually brighten the film and the bombastic music was brain-deadly. Fortunately, there are still some nice solid action scenes.

A British action thriller that wants to feel Hollywood. That's The Sweeney in a nutshell. With a nice cast and a nice setup, there was also a really nice action film in this, only the ambitions seemed too high in the end.

The film starts off strong: witty dialogues, fun action, constant tension, cool characters supported by a strong cast. That can't really disappoint either with Winstone, Drew, Atwell, and Lewis you have a nice ensemble filled with lesser known but talented actors. Lucky that this cast is there because after a great first act that is also characterized by a beautiful visual style, the film collapses. Twists that are too thin, such as characters who die, predominate. That in itself is not that bad, but when the half 2nd and complete 3rd act is carried by the death of a character halfway through the film that was so finger-tight, it is quite irritating. The fact that the film also goes off all the clichés in the last half ensures that the entire setup falls into water after all. Despite those mistakes, the momentum remains and it is certainly entertaining. In the finale, the director once again gives his best with a nice action scene that ends banally and thus sums up the entire film.

The Sweeney is a reasonable action movie, mainly supported by a nice cast and a strong start. After that the film sinks in and is too predictable but still entertaining. There could only have been more in it
