Great.

In my experience, Italian films are often very neat and intellectually put together, but ACAB puts a different spin on that. The title is derived from a well-known slogan, and apparently it wants to seem hip. Or make a statement?

We follow three older police veterans who, in addition to their heavy work as riot cops, struggle with their private situations; from divorces, to arguments to self-destruction. During their work they are often ready with a rubber stick to give some scum and scum a few good taps. You could often hear the term police brutality here. Everything passes by: football hooligangs, refugees, skinheads, gypsies, beggars... They don't shy away from anything. I think this is an emphasis on the fact that "all cops are assholes (or assholes)." Then they also have to take in a rookie; Cobra... himself a neo-Nazi, who is between two stools with his fascist club and the police force.

And no matter how brutally and often outside the law these gentlemen work, they get away with everything. That bit where one of those officers is acquitted; after which he then starts singing "Police on my Back" with his colleagues is the highlight. And yes, the gentlemen often bring their private problems to work... which also regularly determines the way they act.

Also impressive images of the grimy places in Rome. No, not the tourist attractions. In contrast to a post above, I thought the ending was subtle.

Great debut and indeed almost a documentary.

Expected more. Terrible ending. Should have lasted 15 minutes longer.

A reasonable film about a riot police unit that is confronted with violence from demonstrators and hooligans. Their personal emotions play an important role in making the right decisions. This combined with a political power game. The abrupt ending was an absolute disappointment for me.
