OK.

Second touch with Japanese director Kitamura. Found The Midnight Meat Train to be one of the best horror movies in ages. It's only a matter of time before I went to see his second American horror film, but this is a step back in its entirety.

It probably also depends on the budget, because Kitamura plays a lot less with the film here as a director. There are some nice parts in it, but in the end this film more closely follows the trail of the off-screen kills-slashers, which is a bit of a shame considering how much blood TMMT managed to use.

Although there is still a lot of blood spattered, but the impact or murders themselves remain largely out of the picture. Usually a zoom-in of someone or an object that gets a whole bucket of blood down on it, or some noise in the background. The film lacks the truly brutal and detailed brutality.

Acting is also not very special, although Evans is very nice as a crazy killer. But Clemens, on the other hand, was again very below par. It constantly varies a bit. One is a bit better than the other, but no one really impresses or puts an interesting character apart from Evans.

Pretty smooth. Enough pace in the film and a relatively short running time. Couple of nice scenes where the blood is allowed to splash, although this is a bit tamer when we look at TMMT. But Kitamura lets the shaky 3 million in it roll across the screen with full dedication.

I seem to be a fan of Ryûhei Kitamura's films. I continue to find this very cool film and quite underrated with a wonderful Luke Evans as a psychopath, but a fan of that guy, extremely suitable as a psycho/bad guy. Take care of the sickness of man. In the film Anna with that stunning Sasha Luss, I also thought it fit perfectly and there are a few more (Gaston in B&B). He's making this movie. The setup of the film is completely successful for me.

Directed by Ryûhei Kitamura. A director with experience in the action and horror genre. And the latter is clearly visible in the brutal murder work that the film has a lot of. Fun and striking in No One Lives are also the extensive use of black humor and the thickening of the actions in the action scenes.

The exaggeration provides a lighthearted view of the brutality of things passing by on screen. In that light-hearted setting, the grotesque plot, the absurd dialogues and the excessive violence are well worth spurning. The film has no common ground with sophistication and subtlety. The story is kept simple and jumps from brutal murder to brutal murder without getting involved much with side issues. The deluge of violence is only interrupted by dialogue and necessary (and predictable) developments in the story to happen.

The action, which mainly consists of murder work, uses non-digital effects. There is severe cutting, shooting, stabbing and torture. Assassin Luke Evans does it all without any show of emotion. He is ice cold and acts deliberately. Not a sympathetic figure of course, but because he victimizes white trash, the sympathy is in his favor. Except for some brief flashes of his past, you learn nothing about him and his character remains mysterious. I would have liked to see a little more background on this character.

No One Lives is a fun action-slasher with creative kills, curious dialogue and an intriguing killer. So great entertainment.
