"Don't Stop Shooting!"

A film crew finds themselves in an isolated and abandoned water treatment plant, which was reportedly used for human CPR experiments, to shoot a zombie movie. However, Higurashi insists that the crew, or what's left of it, keep filming.

Every word I write about this is actually one too many, because this is a film that you should be surprised by and therefore start with as little prior knowledge as possible. But, and READING FROM HERE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, it's been a long time since a movie has rubbed me so wrong. I couldn't place the rave reviews at all in the first half hour and thought it was a boring, amateurish and sometimes completely inimitable affair. But luckily I persevered, because what a funny and well-made film this turns out to be indeed. Absolutely recommended.

This was a very special movie. It's actually best not to read anything about it. In the beginning the film seems very b-movie, but after half an hour the film is very enjoyable.

I would say just watch it, I was very pleasantly surprised!

A nicely conceived story is director Shinichiro Ueda's answer to compensate for his budgetary limitations. Unfortunately, a well-constructed twist is not exactly the excuse for an overall strong film and in the case of One Cut of the Dead it even provides an extremely tough film experience. The first half hour obviously serves as much-needed support, but is extremely boring. The fact that this was the intention simply doesn't make the movie experience any easier. Then it becomes clear how the fork is in the stem and that is also stretched endlessly, until my personal patience was completely exhausted. The acting is enthusiastic and the finale adorable, but getting through the entire content of Ueda's debut was a particularly exhausting experience. On that basis, I simply cannot justify an ample pass mark.
