Mitch Wayne and Kyle Hadley have been friends since childhood. Marylee, Kyle's sister, hopes Wayne will marry her one day, but, like Kyle, he is in love with Lucy Moore. Kyle proposes to Lucy, which she agrees to before Wayne can express his love for her. A year later, Lucy finds out she's pregnant, but when Kyle discovers he probably won't be able to father children, Marylee suggests that Wayne and Lucy are dating.
