Company K plot

In the early 1930s and thus on the eve of another war, deeply traumatized Joe Delaney finds himself in New York, working on his typewriter writing down his 1918 memories. At that time, Delaney was quickly sent to the great European war with other American boys, so that their president also showed off as a co-victor in the end. Delaney recalls the horrors of trench warfare, the whims and quirks of his fellow combatants, and his confrontations with the also human enemy.

This is indeed a terrible movie.

Very low budget and it shows.

The acting is also shaky on all sides; not a single character is convincing.

Also a lack of storyline; it jumps from one thing to another.

A miss.

Especially since there is little convincing evidence to be found regarding WWI.

It shows that the subject remains very difficult, although "Beneath Hill 60" and "Passchendale" do head in the right direction in the action scenes.

Shame about the tacked-on romance nonsense in both films.

This film doesn't do that anywhere, but is equally good at something else, a waste of euros.

Quite a good anti-war film about the madness of the First World War in the style of

Paths of Glory (1957) and Gallipoli (1981) are worth a 3.5 to me

Kicked off the film marathon with Company K, which I found at the thrift store last week and was quite happy with. After all, I was actually curious about this film since I also own the book by William March, and that is quite a good book. But unfortunately, the film failed to meet expectations for a single moment...

For while the film initially receives the benefit of the doubt and the old footage does indeed attest to a certain style, things subsequently go wrong primarily with an awfully bad soundtrack, particularly mediocre acting, and characters portrayed in an overly clichéd manner, such as the bullfrog of a sergeant or the overly strict lieutenant. Beyond that, the framing narrative—I have no idea if this term really applies to this story, as it is in the book—is short moments where the characters experience something.

And although it is actually a depressingly bad film, there are still some positive points, with an attempt to give the whole thing some shape using a tank, plane, and trenches, which in itself doesn't look too bad. Other than that, it is all too low-budget and has too much of a TV-movie vibe, and the rating reflects that.
