"Could it be that French is the true language of love?"

'French Film' is a British homage to the French love film. When Jed has to interview the pompous French filmmaker Thierry Grimandi (Cantona), he is annoyed by his overbearing views on love. Strangely enough, his own life also begins to play out as a French love film. His girlfriend Cheryl flees when he proposes to her; he is in love with Sophie, his best friend Marcus' girlfriend, and Marcus in turn meets an old childhood sweetheart...
