Bad Men of the Hills plot

"Thrills fill the plains... As songs soar to the hills!"

US Marshal Dave Upjohn arrives in Sundown to investigate the lawlessness there. Upjohn is welcomed by the corrupt sheriff Mace Arnold and his deputy Lefty Brant. Because Arnold and Brant are afraid that the sheriff's office may be planning rancher robberies, they kill Upjohn. When Upjohn's son Steve, posing as Steve Carlton, learns of the murder, he vows revenge. Arnold's outlaw gang catch Steve on the way and knock him unconscious. The outlaws tie him to his horse and then send the animal to Chimney Hole, trusting that the violent residents there will kill him and he can't root in their affairs. However, the residents of Chimney Hole have stood up for Arnold's gang of runaway ranchers. With the help of these ranchers, Steve, disguised as the masked 'The Durango Kid', hopes to round up Arnold's outlaw gang for good.
