Mary Robbins is a beautiful young woman and owner of saloon "The Poker". She is coveted by almost every man, and especially by Sheriff Jack Rance. She is invited to sing in Monterey at a mass. During the trip to Monterey, the stagecoach is ambushed by the masked bandit Ramerez and he falls head over heels for the beautiful woman. Ramerez assumes the identity of a Lieutenant Johnson and follows her to Monterey. There they meet and Mary falls in love with "Lieutenant Johnson". In the meantime, Sheriff Rance has set a trap for Ramerez to expose him.
