Downright lousy sequel to the strong and entertaining first part. An attempt is made to make a kind of copy of certain personalities and situations, attempts that mainly fail when trying because it is just really bad. For example, Collins Clifton Jr. introduce the new sul, Rocco 2.0 but is really just annoying. And Bloom has to introduce the new Smecker, except for the fact that Benz looks quite nice, the acting is a lot less for her. Because it's terrifying when she's on the dinner table in her cowboy suit, also when she's doing her version of 'THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!!!' does and...well...when she walks through that shooting gangster.... Jesus how bad. Without these two very ill-conceived characters, the movie would have been a lot better. Then the lilliputian with his inferiority complex, for example next to the pastor on the floor .... well .... I couldn't laugh about it.

The Boondock Saints revolves around those two brothers and their dad, that's where the humor and chemistry are. Also a lot of hyped shit and just not fun. Everything that was good in part 1 is pretty much wiped out and done wrong in part 2.

Mediocre.

It's really special to see that if the same director starts on the same film, this can go completely wrong if he removes a single important element. In the case of The Boondock Saints, that is clearly the lack of Dafoe. Nice to see him at the end, but he is sorely missed during the film itself.

The Boondock Saints is a strange action movie and also reminds me a lot of the first part in terms of tone. There are quite a lot of elements from that movie being redone in this movie. Some scenes are even completely copied with another actor. Unfortunately, the acting is really mediocre. I've never found Reedus and Flanery a great action duo, but fortunately the way they work is captivating. Furthermore, the acting additions of Benz and Collins Jr. Not of much value I'm afraid.

Sometimes there is still a nice moment to be seen, also with enough humor, but The Boondock Saints II excels in rather strangely put together action scenes. The soundtrack doesn't fit at all and the slow motion prevents almost any kind of coolness. The first part could take advantage of Dafoe's humor, without this humor not much remains. This second part is good proof of that.

The finale was still entertaining and the movie never quite dies, but all the coolness is completely missing. The bare decor, many uninteresting action scenes and an amateurish look betray that Duffy himself didn't quite know how to continue the series. Perhaps it's time for a new director to take over, because I heard that part 3 was already in the works.
