The chauvinistic shipbuilder David Conway of Massachusetts can earn much more in another state. He insists that his wife Lynn, a literary agent, quit her job and live off his new and high income. And she has to give up her luxury New York apartment to live with him in a small house in provincial New Bedford. Lynn's former partner Harry Borden, who still has a crush on her, then tries to convince her to leave David.
