Christa is a fairy who lives with an entire elf tribe in peaceful FernGully: a quiet and beautiful jungle where peace has recently returned. FernGully used to be terrorized by Hexxus, an evil spirit who wanted to destroy all the greenery in FernGully. Now, a long time later, he has been resurrected to avenge FernGully.

Disney's.
A nice cartoon that screams Disney, but doesn't come from their stable. The moralistic eco-message won't bother children much, and the colorful animations are beautifully designed. It isn't particularly original, and the songs are certainly not evergreens. Nevertheless, this will go down a treat with many children. Fortunately for adults, there is a funny voice cast led by the comedicest of the bunch: Robin Williams.

Lame animation.
In the distance, it does remind you a bit of Disney, with fairies, talking animals, and of course musical interludes, but for a real Disney film, it is perhaps just a little too dark. Also just a little too loose. The main problem, then, is that the combination of those two doesn't immediately catch on either.
I never saw the film when I was younger; perhaps I was just a bit too old for it back then. On the other hand, I'm not much of a nostalgic person, so it's unlikely that something like that would have had much of an impact. It's just a typical film for young children, with a strong moral about deforestation. There have been other animations like that too.
The animation is fluid, but that is about all there is to say. The art style is very mediocre and certainly not exceptional anywhere. The bad guy is actually quite likeable, but mostly just feels a bit out of place compared to the rest of the film.
It's a good thing it's short, it's over in no time, but it's not great. One to forget quickly.

A decent animated film. James Cameron clearly studied FernGully closely with Avatar, as the story shares many similarities. The critical message about how we as humans treat nature, a romantic subplot between a human and a fantasy character, a large tree hiding special powers, etc. It is an interesting cocktail.
However, the execution lacks originality and it is all remarkably flat. The music tracks are mediocre, and the animation is also quite standard. The voice actors are not very good, and sometimes it distracts too much from the story. The short running time and brisk pace ensure that it is still reasonably watchable.
