Strange Lady in Town plot
"She was the one woman Rork didn't want in Santa Fe... but he'd kill anybody who'd try to make her leave..."
Julia Winslow Garth is a doctor and women have a hard time in that field. The inhabitants of the city do not like a female doctor and, moreover, she fights for the right to vote for women. However, rival doctor Rourke O'Brien helps her advance in the Santa Fé of 1879, not because he thinks there is room for two doctors, but more because her appearance does not leave him cold. Despite obstacles such as prejudice, arrogance and ignorance, O'Brien is increasingly on her side. She gets into trouble with her brother David, who is dishonorably discharged from the army and then becomes an outlaw. The citizens are willing to drive her out of town personally, but she gets help from the Mexicans and Indians who have accepted her presence.
