Bill Reardon is unsuccessful as a private investigator and decides to return to his old job with the Public Prosecution Service. However, his wife Sally manages to secure an assignment from a wealthy socialite who wants to shadow her husband. When this man is found dead the next morning, Sally has another customer richer. The prime suspect in the murder wants her to prove his innocence. This means that the Reardons are working on the murder case with conflicting interests, with all the consequences that entails.
