Atmospheric Gothic horror film by Roger Corman. Everything about this film breathes Edgar Allan Poe. The beautiful castle, the menacing sea and not to forget Vincent Price, the ideal actor for this type of role.

Tasteful 60s horror the way I like it.

Good

As far as the story is concerned, you are still left wanting. The slow build-up is not in itself a criticism, but after an hour or so it only becomes interesting. It is also disappointing in terms of tension. On the other hand, there are of course also positive points to report, such as the special atmosphere, the mysterious castle, the beautiful sets and the cast. The lock is also strong. 6.5/10

An old Vincent Price classic is always fun to see, even though this isn't his best role. Pit and the Pendulum particularly benefits from an attractive decor, which certainly brings out the spooky elements. Once the final approach becomes clear, there is a certain feeling of disappointment (due to lack of originality) in the air, but fortunately it delivers a noteworthy finale. It is a pity that the acting of the secondary characters is poor and that director Roger Corman cannot really increase the tension, but these types of concise horror films are sorely missed in the current generation. The sometimes experimental editing turns out ugly, but the embellishment and detail are memorable enough for the end result to be a passing grade.
