"Can you change your whole life in one day?"
The film tells of Monty Brogan's last day off before he is sentenced to seven years in prison for dealing drugs. He roams the city until dawn with two close friends and a girlfriend. He reflects on his life and how he ended up in this situation.

Great film about a man who spends a day with his friends before going to prison for seven years. A moving story that is told in peace, with beautiful characters and in which the 9/11 aftermath is well interwoven. A strong cast with Edward Norton leading the way (beautiful 'fuck you' monologue). A beautiful soundtrack and perhaps one of the most beautiful endings ever.

Very strong! It starts with the detail that the audio of the cool opening scene already starts when the studio logo is still in view. I am a fan of Norton and also a very strong role here. The tension between the characters is very nice and the atmosphere setting is top notch. Good mono and dialogues, of which the mirror scene stands out of course. The ending seemed unexpectedly typically American, but fortunately not. It's basically open and that's fine. I've seen him a long time ago, but obviously didn't make as much of an impression then as I do now. (8.5)

Good Spike.
A director I used to like significantly better than now. I think I've mentioned before that I find it mainly intrusive and annoying nowadays, but in the past it was a bit fresher, sharper and more unique. 25th Hour is an ideal example of one of his more unique films in which he mixes up some themes but never rubs in.
This movie is a typical movie that can benefit from some very strong scenes. The final scene for example, but also Norton talking to himself in the mirror. Overwhelming, very strong moments that were way ahead of their time. I see few directors who sometimes really address the audience directly, but the neutrality and honesty in dealing with political themes also appealed to me.
Norton plays a good role, although I didn't think it was an impressive character. It is just a little too standard for that. As far as I'm concerned, his love affair could have been completely scrapped out, especially an inhibitor to the story. The secondary characters do have a gradient that I found distinctive. Norton's character lacks that original flair, but fortunately his strong acting partly makes up for that.
Visually infused with a striking filter that ensures that the film can bathe in a nice raw sauce. In any case, the environment appeals to me. The pace of the film is somewhat unbalanced. Sometimes there are very intriguing scenes, but other scenes are very uninteresting that make it difficult for me to keep my attention constantly. Furthermore, nicely furnished and appropriately decorated.
I definitely thought it was a good movie, one that gives me some confidence in Spike Lee's older movies again. Never before has one of his films really disappointed me, but I also really liked his old films. 25th Hour is a competent contributor to his career, but it certainly isn't his best work.
