Former criminal and now private investigator Horatio "Boston Blackie" Black gets into trouble when he attends an art auction of his friend and millionaire Arthur Manleder. Coincidentally, this gallery is run by scammers. That's what Blackie's friend Diane Parrish found out about. To silence her, Joe Buchanan, the crooks' leader, shoots Diane, but he only wounds her. However, the sculptor Eric Allison is fatally injured. Police Inspector John Farraday and Police Sergeant Mathews, however, suspect Blackie of the murder.
