Mei Lanfang plot
This film follows the life of one of the greatest and most famous Chinese opera singer Mei Lang (Leon Lai) and his lover Meng Xiaodong (Ziyi Zhang). Mei Lang ensured that the Peking Opera became known to the Japanese and even the American public, and was therefore popular beyond the country's borders. Mei Lang also caused great controversy in his lifetime for refusing to act when the Japanese occupied China.
