A comedy about a "bon-vivant" who sometimes colors outside the lines, that suits the French. Just think of the folksy antics of Fernandel, Michel Simon (Baudu...) and later of Philippe Noiret (Alexandre...). French cinemagoers could use a laugh in those 1930s. It did not always have to be the social realism of Jean Gabin.

Funny and witty, with smooth lyrics and cheerful singing, so that you sometimes feel like you are in a musical comedy.

In terms of content, it is certainly also a criticism of the short-sighted and impressionable masses, the bourgeoisie and the voting public.

It starts with Blaireau's dog, which has the same name as the enemy "champêtre", and it remains prickly, funny and enjoyable throughout.

It hardly bothers me that a few characters still feel like they are in silent film mode.
