Fourth film I see by the French director Philippe Lioret and again a very solid work.

Adapted from a novel by Jean-Paul Dubois, "Le Fils de Jean" is a sober and also sensitive film about a man who wants to find out what kind of person his father was and is faced with some surprises.

Calmly told while you still feel the tension increasing towards a reversal drop by drop.

Averse to sensation and towards the end not without emotion.

Excellent renditions. To be cited are certainly Pierre Deladonchamps, Gabriel Arcand and Marie-Thérèse Fortin.

Indeed a quietly babbling art house, but one that I watched with full attention and pleasure. Still fascinating how people want to look for lost or unknown relatives and then idealize them as a kind of loss. Until the nature or character traits emerge and the whole thing is suddenly less romanticized.

Nice setting with alternating busy Montreal and the vast forests and lakes in the area. The film is sober and serene, perhaps a little too calm for some. The acting was fine, especially from Deladonchamps and Arcand.

The plot twist was coming, but I realized it too late. Kind of typical for a movie to embellish the movie a bit. Pretty OK all of them, but none that I'll remember years later.

Nice atmospheric film, especially thanks to the relaxed pace, the beautiful shots and well, Catherine de Léan.

It is a pity that the key moments in the story do not always come across as credible, but that is not very disturbing for the experience.
