Loft plot

"Five friends, one loft, one dead body"

Five married men secretly share a loft, where they receive their mistresses in style and peace. A fine arrangement, until one winter morning they find the body of a young woman. None of them know who the woman is, where she comes from, and how she ended up in the loft that only they own the key to. The friends are forced to try to find out for themselves what happened and why, but they soon begin to mistrust each other and it turns out that they know a lot less about each other than they thought.

Exciting!

I've wanted to check this out for so long, but I just couldn't. Finally seen. Such a typical Belgian film. Our southern neighbors can make better films than we can in that regard. I am therefore less curious about the Dutch Loft.

The atmosphere is created from the first minute and does not disappear. Nothing is what it seems, there are intrigues, lies, but who or what? The great thing about Loft is that it remains unclear until the end what actually happened. There are plenty of twists and turns and they are unexpected. A cast with big Belgian names resulting in excellent acting.

Small applause for van Looy.

Because the plot is complementary to the visual style, otherwise it is not much. De Looy especially captivates with beautiful locations and beautiful use of color. Something that keeps you interested throughout the film. In terms of tension it is reasonable, but the twists become annoying in the long run. In any case, they could no longer be counted on 2 hands. Acting was decent, but nothing special. I expected a bit more from De Bouw. Usually puts down a decent role, but here he seems a bit searching.

All in all, a nice piece of film. Perhaps if you are a fairly novice movie viewer that the twists still leave you amazed, but otherwise it is no more than a visually fascinating thriller.

Before this I had seen the Dutch remake before. Because I liked the plot, I also wanted to see the Flemish original, but this DVD turned out to be a lot more difficult to obtain than the Dutch one. Found a second-hand copy, where inlay and disc print were Flemish, but when looking it turned out to be the Dutch version! After contact with the Flemish producer, the conclusion was that apparently illegal incorrect copies were in circulation, I have that again! It took me quite some effort to find the Flemish DVD. Plot of both versions is almost the same, actors also play well here, but I found the Flemish version a bit less than the Dutch one. It is possible that my assessment would have been different if I had seen the Flemish version before the Dutch one......
