Aanrijding in Moscou plot

Moscou, a working-class district in Ghent. Matty (41) crashes into a truck. Johnny (29) clambers out of the cabin. He is angry at the dent in his bumper and yells at Matty. But Matty doesn't give up and puts Johnny in his place with a few well-chosen words. The truck driver is completely impressed. While Matty recovers from her emotions in a warm bath, her oldest daughter Vera (17) comes to bring the phone. On the line is Johnny who apologizes. But Matty doesn't have to apologize. He can walk to the moon! A few days later Johnny is at the door. He knows how to fix Matty's dented trunk in no time. Before the astonished eyes of Matty's children, sparks fly between Matty and the much younger Johnny. Matty's ex-husband Werner is jealous. He's been away from Matty for five months and keeps putting off signing the divorce papers.

Nice film with a thin story, but still very recognizable in everyday life. Also very nice to finally see a Ghent production where the regional language is effectively spoken. In Belgium we know, among other things, "cops" and "code 37", which also take place in Ghent, but you only hear Antwerp talk...

Barbara Sarafian also excels, and the dialogues are "very wise" as they say here in Ghent.

4 stars.

Mama are you in the bath?

No, I'm getting massaged by a big negro.

"Back in the car, mommy is arguing!"

Don't think I'm exaggerating if this is one of the most popular Flemish films of the past 10 years. It catches on with a large audience and doesn't get boring after watching it 2 or 3 times. It's funny, witty and realistic without being tacky. I'm not a fan of the Ghent flat but it completely fit in with this. Beautiful woman is that Barbara Sarafian. The cast may be less appealing at first sight (most were not really known at the time) but they do play convincingly. Overall, an engaging film that is fun to watch and gives you the itch to act silly.

Collision in Moscow remains a very enjoyable film. Every time I see him again, he continues to fascinate, he does not get bored. I know Ledeberg quite well. I am from Ghent, used to be a student in Ghent and always moved in Ghent via Ledeberg. Even now I regularly go to Ghent, especially when I go to the cinema. Not the most beautiful region of Ghent, this Ledeberg, but a typical suburb where all traffic (Sint-Pieters station or train depot in Merelbeke) and motorways (E17 and the inner ring R4) intersect.

Collision in Moscow is one of those movies that has a little bit of everything. Despite the simple and predictable story, a perfect mix between humor, romance and drama. Matty, a loser as they say, bitter and left alone with 3 growing children in a small apartment after her husband exchanged her for a younger one, finds in Johnny the spark of light that she is currently missing in her life.

The film has some great dialogue and fun discussions that never go over the edge. The Ghent accent is also great. Not thoroughbred Gents indeed, but tailor-made for a wider audience to listen to. Nice role by Sarafian who broke through in Flanders with this. And Anemone Valcke just got prettier. Delnaet and Heldenbergh are also doing well. A movie with some nostalgia for me. It is a pity that the Moscow tram stop has (for the time being) gone out of circulation, fortunately tram 4 itself is still running.
