Aquí Se Construye (o Ya No Existe el Lugar Donde Nací) plot
Between June 1997 and October 1999, filmmaker Ignacio Agüero followed the demolition and new construction in a neighborhood in the Chilean capital Santiago. The ongoing destruction - the violent knocking down of walls by monstrous grasping arms - contrasts Agüero with a calm camera sliding past the old houses. There are signs with 'vende' (for sale) everywhere. The biologist Guillermo Mann has also put up such a sign. When his mother fell ill, he returned to his childhood home. He has lived in this neighborhood for half a century. In the noise and dust of the demolition he now sees his past slowly disappear. In his garden, animals still find shelter among the special, imported plants...
