Een Gelukkige Tijd plot

When the persecution of the Jews broke out in 1942 and about 100,000 Dutch Jews were deported to Nazi Germany, more than 600 of them managed to escape on the grounds of their 'merit to the fatherland'. A list, drawn up by Secretary-General Frederiks of the Interior, would protect them from transport to the German concentration camps and provided them with safe accommodation in a castle in Barneveld. Although these people were still deported to Theresienstadt in September 1943, almost all survived the war. On the basis of interviews, survivors, including the mother of screenwriter Oeke Hoogendijk, tell their radical life story. Old photos, archive material and idyllic shots in the surroundings of the castle reconstruct their lives of fear, love and guilt.
