How to Lose Friends & Alienate People plot

"He's across the pond, and out of his depth."

Sidney Young is a disillusioned intellectual who works at a small magazine. Because he hates the life of the glamor and fame in Hollywood, he is noticed by a wider audience because he writes pieces about it. He is soon hired at a larger magazine, where he is far from endearing himself.

“When I do it, it's called flirting. When you do it, it's called sexual harassment.”

Pegg and Dunst are an unlikely, but fun couple. The movie itself has a lot of momentum and some strong moments. It's certainly not a masterpiece, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Pegg is up to something again, with varying degrees of success. Director Weide still has some criticism of the superficial showbiz industry, but that doesn't really work. As a rom-com, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People comes into its own.

Bland Pegg.

As an actor, he is not lacking in acting talent. He knows what to make of most roles and almost always does what he has to do. He can also afford a nice charm that helps him move forward in almost every movie. The unfortunate thing is that he sometimes has trouble choosing the right films.

This time he opts for a film with a long and ambitious title, but also with a content that can be called very simple once it is fully revealed. Actually, it is mainly an addition to the kind of film that highlights that success in terms of rich jobs is not rosy, but those who are familiar with Pegg will know that the necessary eccentricities are added to it.

The acting isn't brilliant from the other roles, although not so bad either. Fox's character is introduced very successfully, but then also removed a bit from the canvas. Dunst also doesn't quite shine because of a mostly flawed script that forces her into a very monotonous performance. So it's already hard to see a bond develop between her and Pegg, and it doesn't quite work out.

The sometimes funny situations, reasonable decorations and a course that introduces itself long enough not to be immediately predictable are unfortunately somewhat counteracted by a larger amount of silly jokes, less successful characters and too long a course. Fans of Pegg will probably get some entertainment out of it, but those who don't like it much will probably shrug their shoulders for this film.
