The Henderson family is just on their way home from a trip when they run into something strange. They stop, and believing that the curious creature is dead, they take it with them. But what is their surprise that it is not dead at all, but in fact very lively and very witty - under a rather terrifying appearance. Even though he is a bit clumsy in their house, they decide to take him into the family. What they don't know, however, is that an evil person is hunting him.

Used to see the series regularly on TV and now finally seen the movie version. And it is exactly what you can expect, the film follows the ET formula down to the last detail. But Harry and the Hendersons does have some strong points. John Lithgow is always a pleasant lead. And that's okay, because the rest of the family is fairly interchangeable. Fortunately there is also Harry; a fantastic and very likeable character, with his great grin. Nice design by Rick Baker and also well portrayed by Kevin Peter Hall, the man who also played Predator in the first two films. The scenes between Lighgow and Harry are therefore immediately the best that this otherwise quite predictable family film - which could have been a little funnier anyway - has to offer.

Harry and the Hendersons is a delightful comedy/family film. All clichés are reviewed and the set-up is far from original. Yet it is a wonderful film that clearly manages to work well on the sentiment and bigfoot itself is extremely funny. I think the rating on this site is a bit low because within the genre it is certainly one of the best.
