The Dark Knight plot
"Welcome to a world without rules."
Bruce Wayne, aka Batman (Christian Bale), and Lt. James Gordon (Gary Oldman) join forces with newly appointed District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) in order to bring down the Mob as well as Gotham City's newest criminal, the Joker (Heath Ledger). I really think this is one of the best superhero movies ever made. It is exciting, but above all, well-acted, and that was something that was often lacking in the old Batman films.
Heath Ledger is brilliant as the Joker, and the Joker is indeed what the entire film revolves around.
As far as I'm concerned, they could have left Batman out of this film, since he adds little to this installment. I think the Two-Face character is well done, although his face is a bit unbelievable.

Unfortunately... this movie was quite a disappointment to me 
I can totally understand that there are people who enjoy these kinds of movies, but to be honest, I find an average of 4.12 b-ra-zing-we-king.
Because what is really so incredibly great about this movie? Story-wise, it's all pretty standard and tame. A good guy-bad guy ritual, some fast chases with accompanying shootouts, and supposedly threatening situations that you mostly know in advance will end well (the hospital is evacuated in time, of course no boat gets blown up, that kid definitely isn't shot either, etc, etc...).
In that respect, this film fails to distinguish itself from many others at all. Nothing but clichés...
The cast consists of big names, but the roles they have to fill are so standard that they can do it on autopilot. So, in that regard, there are no noteworthy points. Although I must say that Heath Ledger portrayed his role as the Joker wonderfully. As far as I'm concerned, he was the only standout.
Besides Ledger's role, I also thought everything was beautifully filmed and the film has a reasonable pace, making it bearable for a one-time watch. Those were the plus points, and I award a few points for them.
Giving it a passing grade is going too far for me, because I felt like I had seen all the clichés many times before. To me, therefore, it is nothing more than the many other tame, standard action farce that think they can compensate for these shortcomings with an excess of bombast. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me.
I started watching with a neutral face, and with that same expression, I stared at the credits too 
A 2.5* seems sufficient to me.

Greatly entertaining action movie with a grim undertone.
A well-constructed story, not too much nonsense and enough action, without becoming a brainless superhero movie. A delightful crime atmosphere as well, with, of course, a great bad guy who wants to sow panic, which is also well conveyed in the film.
Some cool scenes in between; the opening scene, the hospital scene... But also a few weaker things like Gordon's "death"...
The acting performances are of a high standard. Naturally, especially Heath Ledger, who plays a legendary role and delivers perhaps one of the best supporting performances ever. A wonderfully psychopathic character. He made me shiver more than the softer version in the Burton film. That performance by Ledger, combined with supporting roles from Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, among others, makes Christian Bale painfully fade into insignificance.
Extremely entertaining action movie with Heath Ledger at his best.
4.12 is indeed perhaps a bit high, this film is perhaps a little too standard for that, but I'm giving it a solid 4* anyway.
