'A' Gai Wak plot
"Rip-roaring adventure on the old China Coast."
It is the end of the nineteenth century and the British rule over Hong Kong. At least over land, because at sea is a band of pirates, led by Lor Sam Pau, lord and master. The coastguard does everything to catch the pirates, but always falls behind the net. It's up to the unlikely combination of ex-Marine Dragon Ma, his former rival, police captain Tzu, and petty thief Fei to finally defeat the pirates.

Nice film in which the navy and police take on a gang of pirates at the end of the nineteenth century. A mediocre story that also seems a bit chaotic here and there. Still entertaining because of the spectacular stunts and the sometimes inventive action scenes (especially chases and fight scenes).

Nice stunts in this funny movie with a young Jackie Chan. The movie is full of fun fights. Dragon and Fats are a nice duo. The highlight is the bike chase and Chan hanging from the bell tower. Unfortunately, we are only 55 minutes into the movie and after that it goes downhill a bit, once on the boat and on the pirate island.

Very nice Jackie Chan vehicle.
Story is of course perfect for Chan who is good at making something very entertaining out of this. Fast and creative action scenes with some very good stunts, cool fights and a very good climax on the pirate island.
The run-up to that does not always have good and/or fun moments. I thought the film took a bit too much time to get there. That should not have happened with so many detours. Fortunately, it does not bother too much and there is enough left to enjoy. And the golden trio of Chan, Hung and Biao is of course a very strong element of this and many more films in which they work together.
