Mainly going to see the cinematography of Benoît Debie and for a Debie quite ordinary. Pretty solid, but hard to limit by the director to keep it all pretty conventional. My motives immediately get the proverbial lid on the nose. Not a pleasant start.

I also don't like this bad seed subgenre. Seen a huge number of films of this subgenre but always follow the same formula, Joshua is unfortunately no exception. With Rockwell and Farmiga you have two cast members who have to be able to do something with their emotionally grounded roles, but also in this area it is often not good.

It also falls out of tune in terms of bad seed. Joshua comes across as very sympathetic except for some strange ways, his motivations are incorrect but understandable and he has two dramatic parents. Didn't really seem like the intention to me, so this observation is very unpleasantly striking.

Too bad about the disappointing contribution of Debie, but that will probably be okay with the Debie backlog that I still have.

Good.

Why the average is so low is actually a bit of a mystery to me. This is honestly one of the most atmospheric horror movies I've seen. Although it may be nothing at all for the mainstream horror viewer, because this only appeals to a limited group.

Kogan puts down a lovely Joshua. That little guy soon knows how to give you the shivers, there is always a kind of gloomy dripping from him. Exactly as it should be, and with that he already knows how to play out a lot of other child actors. Everything he did was really just flawless.

Rockwell continued with it, although he seems to have little interest in the film. Farmiga was very irritating and plays a weak role. For the rest, everyone played as if he just had to stand there, because the only one who knows how to carry the film is Kogan himself.

The film has some very atmospheric moments, maybe a bit long-winded but never boring. Exciting, atmospheric and eerie. You just have to want it a little to go along. The film never bored me, so 105 minutes was never too long for me.

With Kogan's help, the movie manages to be pretty good for me. Enjoyed quite a bit.

There you go with your unconditional love.

What a scary kid. The film is a bit of a slow burner, but that keeps the film interesting because you want to know what is strange about the kid. Is he mentally unwell? Is he from another planet because of his mechanical way of doing things? Is he possessed by a demonic power? Or is it all about the mother or the father. These questions make the film interesting. Interesting ending too.
