Also based on true events.

I didn't think he was bad. the twisted family story about a heavily reformed family is presented here in a raw and ruthless way. Everything consists of flashbacks told in the courtroom, when the respective mother and daughters are to come forth. Ellen Page once again plays a strong role as the ultimate black sheep.... She is also a roommate. It starts with some misunderstandings, but eventually the girl becomes the prey of sadistic, ritualistic punishments. In the long run, these go so deep that the film becomes convincing enough.

Especially how the mother has allowed herself to be plunged into God in such a way that there is nothing else for her is sickening. Also that imaginary escape of Page and the final climax touched me deeply. That statement from the mother in court was downright scary.

Yes, this appealed to me.

"An interpretation of the Baniszewski case..." the film states in the opening words.

At first I didn't find it very convincing and it is only at the start of the crazy horrors that the film completely captivates you.

You don't think it's possible, although I thought that Catherine Keener doesn't exactly look like a monstrous woman.

Told from the witness stand with flashbacks, I thought it was a good build-up.

The punishments are handed out at the end of the film. It is remarkable that such a person is released for a while and on the other hand the frivolous parents (they saw that it was all about the money after all) are also to blame.
