National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation plot

"Yule crack up!"

Clark Griswald is determined to give his family a wonderful Christmas vacation. But unfortunately it is very disastrous. He buys twenty-five thousand flashing lights to decorate the house and, together with his wife Ellen, son Russ and daughter Audrey, spends a whole Saturday in the woods looking for that one special Christmas tree. The family almost perishes from the tossing and turning, but makes it through trial and error until it is 'peace on earth' and all rifts are repaired.

Quite entertaining and the Christmas atmosphere is well present, but in terms of humor this Christmas Vacation unfortunately fluctuates too much. Occasionally quite funny, such as the necessary puns or a Quaid who kidnaps the director (already packed) to the Griswald home, but often too bland or not fun. That hassle with, among other things, those lights and the neighbors became a bit too much of a good thing at a certain point. But... I had a great time and Quaid and Chase are on a roll. Shame about the bonus and the pool.

Dramatic.

I'm not a Chevy Chase fan but this was really sad. Terribly ugly shot, ridiculously bad humor and unpredictable. The low point of the film is undoubtedly the scene with the squirrel. You'll just have to laugh about it.

Man, so far with amazing success that National Lampoon movies can avoid, after seeing this one I think I'm going to try a little better next time. This is too bad for words.

0.5*

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies that I watch every year. Chevy Chase is extremely charismatic and seems like a great fun man to have as a father! The Vacation movies also keep a nice balance between comedy and sentiment. The ideal film to watch with the family next to the Christmas tree.
