The coping process of the affected family and of the perpetrator.

Pretty well developed but above all a lot of respect for the way in which Mark Ruffalo perceives his role as a weak, doubting, characterless man.

Emotional, psychological drama about an event that unfortunately occurs too often in our society.

“It was an accident, but what I did was terribly wrong.”

The acting keeps Reservation Road a bit upright. Phoenix, Connelly, Ruffalo, Sorvino and the child actors, they all do a great job. Phoenix and Connelly yelling at each other, I could watch it for an hour. The script is unfortunately a lot less, and the story is predictable and strikingly emotionless. Given the events in the film, you as a viewer should be able to empathize with the characters, but it all left me remarkably cold. That is not due to the actors, but to the uninspired and boring script.

Reasonable drama, which could also have passed for an RTL video in the middle of the day.

The idea is quite nice and I expected that more would be done. For example, relatively little is done with the fact that they apparently live close to each other and regularly cross each other's path. When Phoenix then makes the discovery, the film is already too far to make it into a very exciting and special cat and mouse game. This also disappoints me. So there is not much tension. Now the emphasis is undeniably also on the grief, and how both parties deal with the 'happening' and alienating loved ones, but that could have been better and with more emotion from me. It all happens quite flat and emotionless. The actors do their best and especially the name-calling between Connelly and Phoenix is very beautiful. The ending strikes the right chord again although it is predictable that the perpetrator is mentally worse than the victim, because that appears throughout the film, but it just has to come out. Phoenix putting a bullet through his ass would have been too easy. That teaching moment, and bit of insight saves the film as far as I'm concerned.

Not so broken va, quickly on to the next.
