"Just another family man making a living."
mr. Smith (Clive Owen) sees a heavily pregnant woman being attacked by shooting men in the street. He assists in the delivery and ends up in the gunfight, killing the mother. The perpetrators, who seem to have ties to some politicians, turned out to be after the baby. to mr. Smith is then tasked with protecting them, with the help of a prostitute he knows from back in the day and is able to breastfeed the baby.

Quite funny.
Unlike a lot of things, I didn't really have a problem with Owen. He's a face puller, of course, but that didn't bother me. I was more bothered by Belucci's accent. Giamatti is indeed fun and provides a comedic charge here and there.
Action scenes are sometimes over the top and with a lot of bullets, I found them a bit boring at times. But they are very smooth and get you through the 90 minutes in a swoop. There is plenty to see and experience.
This is why a 3.0* filmpie. I like a movie like that if you're bored on a Friday or Saturday night. Grab some popcorn and clear your mind. In that case, Shoot Em Up is ideal.

Shoot 'Em Up is a Jason Statham movie without Jason Statham. He could have played this perfectly with the necessary English humor. However, Clive Owen was director Michael Davis' first choice. The film is a nod to Hard Boiled by John Woo with Chow Yun-Fat.
The movie is wonderfully over the top. No explosions by the way, all stunt work and shootings. With a baby and the necessary carrots in between. The film clearly keeps up the pace and delivers an hour and a half of action with a touch of humor. Should not be more.
