Jason Bourne plot

"You know his name"

It's been years since Jason Bourne disappeared from the radar, but now the most lethal former CIA agent has stepped out of the shadows. In a post-Snowden era succumbing to heavy burdens and a seemingly never-ending financial crisis, Bourne travels from Athens to Las Vegas. Although he has regained his memory, there are still questions to be answered.

In my opinion a superfluous extension of the Bourne trilogy. The film looks slick, of course, but there's not much new under the sun that Alicia Vikander—who I think is popping up everywhere these days—will replace Julia Stiles. Furthermore, a formula that has become worn down to the wire, including spectacular chases and that kind of work. Fans of the genre will love this.

The cake is finished.

I just re-read my reviews of the 4 predecessors. 4 (Identity), 3.5 (Supremacy) and 4 (Ultimatum) stars respectively for the first parts with Matt Damon; followed by a meager 2.5 for "Legacy" with Jeremy Renner. The story is done. Legacy already didn't add anything and neither did this latest installment.

It takes less than 10 minutes and it already feels familiar. While Jason Bourne is running around a warm yellow-filtered resort, he is chased from a distance by high-tech cops into a room with many computer screens and a cool blue color filter. We've again filmed fights from a maximum distance of 6 inches, intense chases, close-ups, crowds in which Bourne is absorbed by wearing a hat, earphones, telephones and more close-ups. It's all there again.

Yet something is missing. Oh yes, a story. The first three films always exposed a small piece of the puzzle, but after "Ultimatum" it was done. In this film, a relative of Jason Bourne is suddenly dragged by the hair. Someone we have nothing to do with, because we only see a small flashback. To give the viewer some emotion, someone is made cold. This is apparently inevitable in a film series of more than 2 parts: you can wait for one of the regulars to die (see also Rocky IV). The viewer must get angry and shout that the hero must go after the guilty. Unfortunately didn't work for me. Furthermore, the film hardly has any plot twists and you see most things coming from afar.

All the good ingredients are there, the film is of very high quality and worth watching for that reason alone - but it doesn't mix well into a real top film. It is, however, a great calling card for villain Vincent Cassell and a beautiful advertisement for both Las Vegas and the Dodge Charger. But Jason Bourne is ready.

Jason Bourne is back! And I really mean Jason Bourne, because with everything he does and says, Matt Damon is Jason Bourne! Awesome!

It must have been quite a process to come up with a beautiful and, above all, correct story that Jason Bourne could come back with. The makers have managed this very well. You are in the film from the start, thanks to the recognizable music of John Powell. Damon is well-trained, experienced and I think that's what I think is the nice thing about this film. Not a nervous, frightened Bourne, but a man on a mission. This time, the mission is to remember exactly what happened to Bourne's father. This is filmed in a beautiful way, you are really in the film and you quickly understand how it works. The locations were also great, Bourne probably imagined himself Bourne a few times... James Bourne

Overall, a great sequel to the trilogy. We leave the part with Jeremey Renner out of consideration (that made no sense), because this film is 100% enjoyable again. Good effects, a realistic story and Damon at his best. Let's hope there's a fifth part, at least I'm ready for it!
