In the near future, the world will look the same as it is today. With one difference, there are hardly any people and no children. The human race is dying out. Women no longer get pregnant. And the women who are still fertile give birth to mutants who are immediately aborted by the government. Judith Foster is a physiotherapist, married to Richard. He works as a civil servant in the EU and is responsible for controlling food stocks. Judith is very prolific. She had been pregnant six times, but each time the child turned out to be a mutant and the pregnancy had to be terminated. Now she is pregnant again. Judith suspects that the mutations in the fetus are the result of the extensive pregnancy test she has to undergo. She convinces Richard to forge her papers and take her to a small seaside hotel, where she hopes to give birth to a normal baby.
