Years ago, Bessie gave up her independent existence to take care of her bedridden father Marvin and her childlike aunt. When the absent-minded Doctor Wally diagnoses Bessie with leukemia, she suddenly needs medical help herself. Reluctantly, her younger sister Lee returns home with her two sons. It is her first family visit in seventeen years. Family relations are still as tense as ever and a reconciliation seems far away...
