Long-winded, boring, and substandard.

Although it is based on a true story,

It doesn't come across as realistic at all.

That has partly to do with the clownish supporting roles.

If you would like to get acquainted with Indian films,

Then I wouldn't start with this film.

I can't give it more than two stars. *2.0

I took a chance on this because of the 8+ rating on IMDB, but it failed to convince me. Kind of by coincidence, it was my second Indian film this week, but apparently I wasn't used to it yet. So, the acting just isn't that great there. The storyline is decent, although it certainly could have been a bit shorter. It feels a bit clumsy here and there. Gradually, deeper layers seem to emerge in the interpersonal relationships between the police, but then again, they don't. The near-final scene with the two police teams facing each other is the interesting part; that could have been explored in greater depth.
And I love open endings, but now I’ve been watching various police investigations and scenarios for 2 hours and it’s still not clear who the murderer is. That feels pretty lame in this setup. The ending is rushed too much, with the parents being convicted anyway due to a simple ruling by a judge.
I read afterwards that it is based on a true story, which perhaps explains the ending. But no, it was entertaining, but not convincing.

How a hierarchical system creates a culture of fear, where corrupt networks lead to playing with the media for self-preservation and status. This extends into the judiciary. All to provide the people with bread and circuses. A sad story. Good acting by Khan as a tenacious detective attempting to clear away the shitload of a failing police system to arrive at a clear vision of what actually happened. 4.0*
